MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

  • Perform the role of the Commission Manager, overseeing end-to-end service delivery
  • Ensure client objectives are met through effective cost management

SCOPE

Cost Managers handle commissions typically ranging from GBP5m to GBP10m, across sectors like Healthcare, Education, HT&M, Retail Banking, and more.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Commission Management:

  • Assist with feasibility studies and procurement reports
  • Estimate and produce cost plans using The Hive
  • Manage tendering processes and contractual documentation
  • Act as contract administrator, managing cost variances and change processes
  • Conduct cost checks and valuations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Produce and present monthly cost reports
  • Contribute to value engineering and negotiate final accounts
  • Collaborate with clients and project teams throughout project stages
  • Lead cost management teams when appropriate
  • Utilize digital tools like The Hive, Benchmarking App, CostX, and others
  • Implement embodied carbon calculations and support sustainability strategies
  • Manage internal fees, job costing, and resourcing

Marketing and Business Development:

  • Identify and report new business opportunities
  • Maintain professional networks and assist with bid documentation
  • Suggest improvements to procedures and tools
  • Participate in external networking and CPD events

Internal Management:

  • Ensure key information is documented internally
  • Suggest process improvements
  • Support and mentor junior staff

REPORTING

Typically to a Senior Cost Manager or an Associate Director.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Manage commissions efficiently and meet quality standards
  • Deliver services in line with agreements
  • Develop strong client and team relationships
  • Contribute to new business development
  • Monitor margins and data management

Qualifications

The Candidate

  • Ability to work independently
  • Self-motivated with initiative and deadline management
  • Working towards or achieved Chartered Status
  • Confident and professional demeanor
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize
  • Collaborative and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work under pressure

Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record in cost management/quantity surveying
  • Professional qualification (RICS or similar)
  • Degree or HNC qualification
