The Role
As Associate Director, you will be the key point of contact for Local Authority clients, managing the full lifecycle of complex, multi-agency infrastructure schemes. This is a leadership role requiring expertise in relationship management, project strategy, and delivery, with a strong focus on securing repeat business through outstanding client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Project Management of major infrastructure projects on behalf of Local Authorities
- Act as the client-facing lead, building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders
- Oversee multi-disciplinary teams, including internal departments and external consultants
- Manage project budgets, risks, and programmes from inception to delivery
- Lead on the preparation of consultant briefs and procurement of large project teams
- Ensure successful delivery of project outcomes aligned with funding requirements
Ideal Candidate Experience
- Core Project Management
- Strategic project planning and development
- Feasibility assessment and constraint identification
- Budgeting, cost management, and risk mitigation
- Programme and procurement management
- Drafting and delivering key project documentation (PIDs, PEPs, Business Cases using HM Treasury’s 5 Case Model)
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaising with public sector officers (Director level to project teams)
- Engagement with statutory bodies (e.g. National Highways, Network Rail, Environment Agency)
- Interaction with funders, landowners, and community groups
- Chairing key meetings and producing action-oriented documentation
- Public Sector Knowledge
- Understanding of UK planning processes (including EIA/ES requirements)
- Land acquisition (including voluntary acquisition and CPO)
- Familiarity with procurement legislation, governance, finance, and legal frameworks
- Experience in drafting and winning funding bids (e.g. LUF)
- Technical Insight
- Knowledge of government guidance and policy (e.g. WebTAG, DMRB)
- Understanding of transport planning and modelling principles
