Turner Property Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a growing client-side industrial development business in the search for two candidates, an experienced Building Surveyor and a Senior MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor. This is an outstanding opportunity for a commercially astute and technically strong Building Surveyor to step into a senior leadership role with genuine board-level influence. Working across industrial new build developments, you will play a key role in shaping projects from inception through to delivery, while mentoring and leading a professional surveying team.
The Role
As Senior Building Surveyor, you will act as the senior technical authority within the business, providing strategic guidance across all stages of the development lifecycle. You will work closely with senior stakeholders and directors, advising on technical, statutory, legal, and commercial matters to support informed business decisions and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical & Professional Leadership
- Lead the building surveying function and provide expert technical oversight across projects.
- Mentor and support a team of surveyors, ensuring high professional and technical standards.
- Review and approve technical reports, specifications, schedules, and consultant outputs.
- Drive best practice, compliance, and quality assurance across the development portfolio.
- Strategic & Board-Level Advisory
- Advise senior leadership on Building Regulations and statutory compliance.
- Planning, Fire Safety, and CDM requirements.
- Contracts, warranties, collateral agreements, and development risk.
- Commercial and financial implications of technical decisions.
- Prepare and present reports to senior stakeholders and contribute to wider business strategy and governance.
- Development Lifecycle Management
- Pre-Contract/Design
- Lead feasibility studies, due diligence, and development appraisals.
- Manage external consultant teams including architects, engineers, and planning consultants.
- Oversee planning applications, design development, and statutory approvals.
- Advise on procurement strategies, contract selection, and risk allocation.
- Construction & Delivery
- Oversee projects during the construction phase from a client-side perspective.
- Monitor programme, quality, and cost performance.
- Manage change control, technical issues, and risk mitigation.
- Lead practical completion, defects management, and handover processes.
- Commercial Oversight
- Provide technical input to cost planning, value engineering, and project viability.
- Review contractor valuations, cost reports, and final accounts.
- Ensure project risks are effectively identified and managed.
- Team Leadership
- Support team development, succession planning, and performance management.
- Foster a collaborative, professional, and high-performing culture.
- Promote RICS professional standards and ethical practice throughout the team.
About You
- MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor (essential)
- Strong technical understanding of Building Regulations and statutory compliance
- Construction contracts (ideally JCT)
- Procurement and risk management
- Previous experience leading and mentoring professional teams
- Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Client-side development experience is advantageous, particularly within industrial or commercial new-build sectors, although strong consultancy candidates will also be considered
