Turner Property Recruitment is currently working with a growing and highly regarded consultancy seeking an experienced Associate Quantity Surveyor & Employer’s Agent to join their London team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven professional to step into a key leadership role, combining both Quantity Surveying and Employer’s Agent responsibilities across a diverse range of projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading project delivery, managing client relationships, and mentoring junior team members, while contributing to the continued growth and success of the business.

The Role

You will take ownership of projects from inception through to completion, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and ensuring successful delivery at every stage. Working across sectors including residential, education, public sector, fire remediation, and retrofit, you will oversee projects typically ranging in value from £1m to £20m. Alongside project responsibilities, you will lead and mentor a small team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistants, helping to maintain high standards across all project outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Contract Duties
    • Preparing and managing cost plans and estimates
    • Developing tender documentation and procurement strategies
    • Producing contract documentation and project reports
  • Post-Contract Duties
    • Managing valuations, variations, and final accounts
    • Monitoring commercial performance throughout project delivery
  • Project & Client Leadership
    • Acting as Employer’s Agent from pre-contract through to completion
    • Managing contractual and commercial matters under JCT and/or NEC contracts
    • Leading project meetings and acting as the primary client contact
    • Coordinating consultants, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes
  • Team Leadership
    • Leading and mentoring a team of Quantity Surveyors and Assistants
    • Reviewing team outputs and ensuring consistently high standards of delivery
    • Supporting the professional development and progression of junior staff
  • Client Engagement
    • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
    • Providing commercially sound advice and strategic guidance
    • Leading client meetings and presentations with confidence
    • Managing expectations and supporting decision-making throughout the project lifecycle
  • Commercial Management
    • Overseeing invoicing and forecasting for projects under your control

About You

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A strong background within a Cost Consultancy/PQS environment
  • Proven experience independently acting as an Employer’s Agent
  • Experience delivering projects across residential, education, or public sector environments
  • Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
  • Previous experience managing or mentoring junior team members
  • Strong working knowledge of JCT contracts (NEC experience desirable)
  • Experience with MEP costing
  • MRICS qualification or currently working towards chartership
