Location: remote working available with travel to sites across the UK. Turner Lovell are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong understanding of the installation of protection and control equipment. This opportunity is available with a market-leading, innovative engineering firm that is helping to power the UK transmission & distribution grid.

As the Senior PM or Project Manager, you will lead, coordinate, and oversee the successful EPC delivery of control & protection systems within substations in the UK.

About the Role

Experience as a Project Manager in both managing the implementation of control and protection systems and EPC experience on substation projects within the UK is critical for this role. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, including the engineering and commercial teams, as well as external customers and suppliers. This role leads a portfolio of high-value projects focused on protection, control, and cybersecurity for National Grid or other DNOs and industrial customers. You’ll also oversee project teams, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Key duties:

  • Working closely with the rest of the Project Team, establish, implement and maintain the project delivery strategy.
  • Lead, coordinate and oversee the successful delivery of protection and control equipment on sites - from point of order right through to installation and handover.
  • Work with the manufacturing factory, engineering team and commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, to quality & SHEQ standards and within budget.
  • Manage and lead a portfolio of Projects and collaborate with customer’s senior partners to ensure customer’s agreement, handle the programme and address any commercial issues.
  • Liaise with customers to understand their requirements and manage their expectations.
  • Manage and foster a strong relationship with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products and services.
  • Work with the internal engineering team to assist with project processes and efficiency.

We are looking for:

  • Significant knowledge in the Transmission & Distribution Sector (power generation networks).
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar related field.
  • Evident experience in Project Management within the UK renewable energy industry (DNOs and TSOs in the UK), PM qualification desirable but not essential.
  • Strong competence in Protection and Control equipment and technology.
  • Experience in subcontract management, site CDM management and management of commissioning activities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
