Senior Protection & Control Engineer

Location: Remote (UK-wide)

Salary: Up to £75,000 (dependent on experience)

Employment Type: Permanent

Turner Lovell are working with a leading UK utility infrastructure contractor that is setting up an in-house Protection & Control design team. This senior role would suit an experienced P&C Engineer who enjoys taking ownership of design work, being a technical go-to on projects, and help mentor junior engineers as the team grows.

You’ll be working on HV and EHV substation projects across the UK (33kV-400kV), supporting long-term frameworks that include new substations, network upgrades, and renewable connections.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Protection & Control design packages from concept through to construction, including AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and protection settings.
  • Produce and check P&C designs to ensure technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and constructability.
  • Support design assurance activities, including checking and reviewing designs produced by junior engineers and external parties.
  • Coordinate with HV plant, civil, cabling, and project delivery teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Interface with clients and stakeholders on technical matters, contributing to design reviews and project meetings.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • UK experience delivering Protection & Control designs for HV and EHV substations up to 400kV.
  • Experience with National Grid standards and UK protection requirements.
  • Experience using protection coordination and modelling software (e.g. ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
  • Ability to manage multiple design packages concurrently and mentor junior engineers.
  • Strong communication skills with experience engaging clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
