Protection & Control Specialist (CDAE)

Location: Remote (UK-wide)

Rate: Competitive (outside IR35)

Contract: Long-term contract

Turner Lovell is working with a leading utility and engineering business that delivers protection, control, and electrical design services for major transmission and distribution clients across the UK and Europe.

With multiple framework agreements and a strong pipeline of projects, our clients are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specialising in protection and control systems to join on a contract basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of protection and control designs for transmission and distribution networks, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
  • Provide CDAE-approved design input, reviewing and signing off drawings, studies, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee the preparation of protection and control schemes, settings, and associated engineering deliverables.
  • Conduct and review studies and calculations such as fault analysis, coordination, and system performance assessments.
  • Act as a technical authority and mentor, guiding junior engineers and providing leadership on best practices in protection and control engineering.

Required Profile

  • HNC/HND or degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in protection and control design, including studies, coordination, and scheme development.
  • Strong knowledge of relay protection and control systems from major OEMs.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering tools (e.g., ETAP, DigSILENT, or equivalent).
  • CDAE/LCDAE accreditation, or substantial experience working towards CDAE status.
