Overhead Linesman (Wood Pole) – LE1 or W5.8/W3.4 Trainee Job Title: Overhead Linesman – Wood Pole OHL Location: North East, United Kingdom Rate: TBC (competitive CIS / PAYE options available) Duration: Long-term Start Date: ASAP / Subject to authorisation proces Key Words: Overhead lines, Wood pole, HV, LV, MEWP 3B, W5.8, W3.4, First Aid, Pole Top Rescue, DNO, NPG, LE1, Substation, Live Working, OHL, Authorised Person Turner Lovell are supporting a national utility contractor delivering complex electrical distribution upgrades across the Northeast. We are currently recruiting Overhead Linesmen with experience working on LV and HV wood pole circuits (up to 66kV) to support a long-term framework project with a major UK DNO. We strongly prefer fully qualified LE1 linesmen who hold both HV (Permit to Work) and LV (Live Working, Generator Connection) codes/authorisations. Responsibilities: Carry out construction and maintenance work on HV/EHV overhead lines (wood pole) up to 66kV Operate under W5.8 code as a Craftsman for HV OHL works on single circuit pole lines Carry out live working support duties under W3.4 code including safe shrouding, pole top rescue, and MEWP emergency procedures Observe and apply safety best practices and contribute to a strong on-site HSE culture Support Permit holders and authorised persons in the execution of overhead line work Maintain accurate records and assist with safety briefings and job planning activities Assist in pole erection, stringing, terminations, and general line maintenanceRequirements: Fully qualified LE1 Linesman with HV (Permit to Work) and LV (Live Working, Generator Connection) authorisations – highly desirable MEWP 3B (Static Boom) valid certification – essential Valid First Aid Certificate – essential Experience working on LV/HV wood pole systems Pole Top Rescue & Live Working Accompaniment experience Ability to work as part of a 3-man team for course and site activities Willingness to undertake W5.8/W3.4 authorisation training if not already held (approx. 4-week lead time post training completion)This is a long-term opportunity for skilled overhead linesmen to secure work on a critical power infrastructure framework, with strong potential for continued project deployment across the North East region.
