Contract: 6 months contract - Freelance (Outside of IR35)

Turner Lovell is recruiting an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a leading EPC Contractor with a turnover exceeding £1 billion in the electricity and renewable energy sector. Following the award of multi-year framework agreements, the company is expanding its team to deliver turnkey HV substation projects across the UK, ranging from £20 million to £150 million.

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager / Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major infrastructure project at Pembroke. This is a freelance opportunity focused on managing and negotiating a significant compensation event arising from design changes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the management and pricing of a large compensation event under NEC4 (Option C)
  • Assess and quantify design changes from the previous baseline to the current design status
  • Undertake detailed take-offs and measurement of works
  • Engage with the supply chain to obtain accurate pricing and input
  • Prepare robust commercial submissions in line with contract requirements
  • Lead negotiations with the client to agree the final compensation event value
  • Provide strategic commercial input during the transition into the construction phase
Project Context

The compensation event relates to design changes following the original pricing submission. The project is now approaching Notice to Proceed and transition into the construction contract phase, requiring detailed commercial reassessment and negotiation with the client.

Requirements
  • Proven experience operating at Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor level
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC4 contracts, with Option C experience essential
  • Demonstrable experience managing and negotiating large compensation events
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage complex change scenarios
  • Experience in infrastructure or energy projects (preferred)
  • Ability to work flexibly with some presence required on site / in office (Newport area)
  • Immediate requirement with a fast turnaround - ideal for someone ready to hit the ground running.
