Turner Lovell are recruiting on behalf of a growing utility and infrastructure contractor who are looking to expand their operational capability within the UK transmission sector. Having successfully delivered projects across 33kV and 66kV networks, the business is now seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support and drive the transition into 132kV - 400kV transmission and substation projects across the UK.

This is a key strategic hire for the organisation and would suit an experienced operational leader with a strong background delivering National Grid, SSE, Scottish Power, or major transmission infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in developing delivery capability, operational structure, client relationships, and project execution within the high-voltage transmission market.

The role will involve overseeing multiple projects and operational teams, supporting business growth, improving delivery performance, and ensuring safe and successful execution of complex HV infrastructure works.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead operational delivery of HV transmission and substation projects from 132kV to 400kV
  • Support the company's expansion into the transmission sector, helping establish operational processes, project controls, and delivery capability
  • Oversee project performance across cost, programme, quality, and safety objectives
  • Manage project teams including Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, SAPs, and subcontractors
  • Develop strong working relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and framework partners
  • Support tendering, bid reviews, project planning, and resource forecasting activities
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, health & safety legislation, and industry standards
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across project delivery
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to operational and site-based teams
  • Monitor commercial performance alongside commercial and senior leadership teams
  • Support recruitment, growth, and development of transmission project delivery capability
  • Ensure reporting and governance requirements are maintained across all operational activities

Role Requirements:

  • Strong operational management experience within HV transmission and substation projects
  • Proven experience delivering 132kV - 400kV infrastructure projects within the UK T&D sector
  • Background working with major utilities or Tier 1 contractors such as National Grid, SSE, ScottishPower, or equivalent
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary project teams and subcontractors
  • Strong understanding of NEC contracts and project delivery methodologies
  • Knowledge of substation construction, HV plant, cable, and associated civils works
  • Excellent stakeholder management and client-facing experience
  • Commercial awareness with experience supporting project financial performance
  • Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience
  • SMSTS, CDM, and health & safety awareness essential
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
