Turner Lovell are recruiting for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to support the energisation and commissioning phase of a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Scotland. This role will be focused on the safe management of 33kV electrical systems, energisation activities, permit control, and operational access to multiple switch rooms across the project.
Working as part of the commissioning and delivery team, you will play a key role in ensuring all switching, safety documentation, and energisation activities are carried out in accordance with site procedures and industry standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Acting as the Senior Authorised Person for 33kV electrical systems throughout commissioning and energisation activities.
- Developing and implementing energisation plans and commissioning strategies.
- Issuing and managing permits, sanctions, and safety documentation.
- Producing and managing Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Managing access and operational control of multiple switch rooms and electrical compounds.
- Coordinating switching operations and isolation activities.
- Supporting commissioning teams during testing, energisation, and handover activities.
- Liaising with DNOs, ICPs, commissioning engineers, project management teams, and client representatives.
- Ensuring compliance with site safety procedures, electrical safety rules, and industry best practice.
- Supporting fault investigations and resolution during commissioning and energisation phases.
- Maintaining accurate operational records, switching schedules, and permit documentation.
Requirements
- Current Senior Authorised Person status with 33kV electrical systems.
- Ideally holding DNO 33kV authorisations/codes.
- Proven experience delivering energisation activities on HV substations, BESS, renewable energy, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of permit systems, switching procedures, and electrical safety rules.
- Experience producing energisation plans and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
- Full UK driving licence.
