Are you an experienced HV Cable Route Civil Engineer looking to take ownership of major power infrastructure projects across the UK? Would you like to lead technically complex cable routing schemes supporting grid connections, substations, renewable energy developments and battery energy storage projects? Are you looking for an opportunity to mentor junior engineers, influence project strategy and play a key role in the growth of a specialist engineering team?

Turner Lovell is recruiting a Senior HV Cable Route Engineer to join a growing engineering contractor delivering critical energy infrastructure projects across the UK. This opportunity sits within a specialist civils team responsible for the development of underground cable infrastructure projects, supporting major utility, renewable energy and private network schemes.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, overseeing route development activities from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support. You will be working closely with electrical engineering teams, clients and stakeholders, and play a key role in delivering practical, buildable engineering solutions while supporting the continued growth of the team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Leading the development of HV cable route solutions across transmission and distribution infrastructure projects
  • Managing route optioneering studies, feasibility assessments and engineering evaluations to support project delivery
  • Providing technical oversight and review of engineering drawings, reports and project documentation
  • Leading multidisciplinary coordination activities across civil, electrical, environmental and land teams
  • Attending client meetings, technical workshops and design reviews, providing technical guidance and recommendations
  • Supporting construction teams with technical queries, design clarifications and engineering input throughout project delivery
  • Identifying project risks and developing practical solutions to overcome technical and construction challenges
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers within the team
Ideal background:
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience delivering underground HV cable route, utility, fibre, rail or other infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of route development, feasibility studies, utility constraints and infrastructure design principles
  • Experience leading projects and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and associated engineering software
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and client-facing skills
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to project delivery
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status would be advantageous but is not essential
