Turner Lovell are recruiting an experienced P&C Test Engineer to join a specialist engineering team based in Newcastle for an initial 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for protection and control testing within a factory environment, working on control and protection panels and associated equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced test engineer with a strong background in secondary protection testing to join a specialist team working on complex high-voltage equipment and systems.
You will initially work alongside experienced engineers who will provide guidance and set work packages, with the expectation that you will become self-sufficient and take ownership of your testing activities.
Duties:
- Carry out protection and control testing on HV substation protection and control panels.
- Perform secondary protection testing using Omicron test equipment.
- Test and verify protection devices, control equipment and associated systems.
- Work from and interpret HV substation protection and control schematics.
- Carry out testing on complete control and protection panels, rather than solely test racks.
- Test and troubleshoot protection and control devices, including occasional control device testing.
- Work with equipment including SIPROTEC 5 and Reyrolle devices, with experience of GE/Alstom equipment also beneficial.
- Support testing involving HMI and IEC 61850 protocol systems.
- Maintain a high level of attention to detail, ensuring all testing is completed accurately and to the required standards.
- Work collaboratively with specialist engineers and wider project teams to resolve technical issues and deliver testing activities to programme.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years' industry experience in protection and control testing or a similar secondary protection testing role.
- Proficient in the use of Omicron test equipment.
- Experience testing control and protection panels, not just test racks.
- Good understanding of HV substation protection and control schematics and panel wiring.
- Familiarity with SIPROTEC 5 and Reyrolle protection devices.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850 protocols and HMI systems.
- Health and Safety Passport or equivalent required.
