A leading UK utility infrastructure contractor is seeking a Principal Technician - Civil/Structural to support a growing technical drawing and digital delivery function. This is a senior technical role focused on driving quality, consistency, and coordination across drawing and modelling outputs on major infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will provide technical oversight across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring deliverables are accurate, buildable, and aligned with project standards. The role would suit an experienced technician with a strong background in drawing production, coordination, and technical assurance. Experience working within 3D environments is important, although the focus is on technical quality and practical delivery rather than software expertise alone.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across CSA drawing and modelling activities on multiple projects
- Review and assure the quality, consistency, and coordination of technical outputs
- Support the development and implementation of drawing standards, workflows, and production methodologies
- Ensure designs and technical outputs are practical, buildable, and aligned with project requirements
- Support multidisciplinary coordination activities across engineering and design teams
- Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians and project delivery teams
- Assist with technical planning, workload coordination, and production support activities
- Work closely with regional project teams and technical stakeholders across the business
- Contribute to the ongoing development of digital engineering and 3D delivery capability
Ideal Background & Experience
- Significant experience within civil, structural, architectural, or multidisciplinary technical design environments
- Strong understanding of drawing production, technical assurance, and project coordination
- Previous hands-on experience within technician, CAD, BIM, or digital engineering roles
- Experience supporting infrastructure, utilities, transportation, energy, water, or construction-related projects
- Good understanding of coordinated 3D project delivery environments
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience using industry-standard design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks, or similar platforms would be beneficial
