An exciting opportunity to join us on the new Sizewell C Project helping us to provide efficient operation and maintenance of SZC Generation Company's water management zones, boreholes and associated pumps and generators, surface water pipework, oil interceptors, fat traps and foul water network. Undertake daily environmental and water quality sampling from the water management zones and boreholes. In this role you will provide operational leadership for Turnbull's integrated waste/water management operations, encompassing treatment, dewatering, and associated assets (waste, groundwater and surface water). Ensure safe operation of the maintenance areas and ensure the safety of other employees and visitors. Maintain 100% environmental permit compliance, zero serious pollution incidents, within contractual budgetary controls, and adherence to set KPI's. Drive continuous improvement in safety, efficiency, and sustainability across all operational areas.

In this role you will be supervising a dedicated team of Operatives ensuring that maintenance, installations and emergency work is suitably prioritised and completed to a high standard and keep this site critical function operating efficiently.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement site-wide operational strategies using industry best practice to achieve high quality in all areas, minimise waste, and enhance sustainability and efficiency.
  • Foster a strong safety culture, promoting awareness and reducing accidents/incidents to protect the workforce and the company.
  • Maximise team productivity and demonstrate value to the client through efficient resource utilisation.
  • Implement operational efficiencies to deliver cost savings to the client where applicable.
  • Ensure effective liaison with SZC stakeholders – Site Operations, Environmental, Security, Construction Delivery Leads, Site Engineers, promoting a consistent approach, technical advice, and swift resolution of any identified problems.
  • Implement business plan objectives and targets, driving business advancement through operational reviews, technology adoption, and staff training and motivation.
  • Manage and lead cultural and organisational change effectively through communication and explanation.
  • Effectively manage emergencies and local incidents to minimise risk and cost to the client.
  • Provide technical advice and justification for capital maintenance needs to ensure reliable and safe operation of assets within regulatory conditions.
  • Oversee contractor management to ensure compliance with H&S standards, quality requirements, and cost effectiveness.
  • Manage interfaces with other departments, building relationships and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Develop and mentor scientific and operational staff, providing career development and guidance and broadening roles from quality to total process management.
  • Ensure the SZC contract management plans are implemented and identify areas for savings.
  • Oversee the dewatering, waste treatment, water treatment process, ensuring efficient operation, compliance with regulations, and optimisation of resource utilisation (including wastewater, groundwater, potable and surface water).
  • Manage the disposal of dewatered materials in an environmentally sound and cost effective manner.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the team, including third party contractor work to ensure compliance with H&S standards and provide good value without risk to quality.
  • Ensure the teams monitor, maintain and check the assets owned on the required schedule and raising to the Operational Delivery Lead when issues occur.
  • Liaise with other contractors to assist the Operational Delivery Lead in planning works.
  • Supervise third party contractor work to ensure compliance with H&S, standards, and good value without risk to quality.
  • Participate in a 24/7 out of hours standby function.

What you'll need:

  • Level 5 Leadership or Management Diploma.
  • Broad experience in the water industry.
  • Experience in the commercial sector.
  • Operational and engineering experience.
  • Performance management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, change management, communication, team and motivational skills.
  • Good process knowledge in water and wastewater treatment.
  • H&S training and field practice - IOSH, Site Management Safety Training Scheme Qualification (SMSTS), CSCS, Confined Spaces.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Experience in the Construction & Water industry, preferably over 5 years experience.
  • Additional H&S training and field practice desirable such as: Confined Spaces, Temporary Works Co-ordinator, Lifting Appointed Person, ATEX DSEAR awareness, IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH, First Aid.
