The Opportunity
We are working with a forward-thinking, tech-enabled real estate investment manager and lender dedicated to modernizing the UK residential market. They are doing this by embedding technology at the heart of operations, enabling efficient underwriting and robust risk management. Having recently partnered with industry leaders to launch new debt funds, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to be the technical cornerstone of our engineering efforts as we scale our proprietary platform.
The Role
In this high-impact position, you won’t just be building features; you will be architecting a proprietary fintech platform that provides a competitive edge in the private credit market. You will work closely with the Managing Director and CTO to translate complex financial requirements into scalable, elegant code.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Design: Lead the evolution of our core platform, ensuring scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Full-Stack Development: Build high-performance applications using Python (Django) for backend services and TypeScript (Angular/React) for frontends.
- Fintech Innovation: Develop automated underwriting workflows, financial modeling tools, and data-driven dashboards.
- Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers, establish CI/CD best practices, and lead code reviews.
- Strategic Integration: Work with third-party APIs (open banking, credit bureaus, property data) to create seamless lending journeys.
Technical Requirements
- Education: Degree in Computer Science or affiliated STEM subject.
- Language Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in Python (Django) and TypeScript.
- Experience: 4+ years of professional software engineering, with a track record of delivering complex, production-grade systems.
- Database & Infrastructure: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL and experience with cloud services (AWS or GCP), Docker, and modern DevOps.
- Domain Knowledge: Prior experience in Fintech, PropTech, or Banking is highly desirable. You should be comfortable with concepts like IRR, LTV ratios, and debt servicing.
About You
- Pragmatic: You know when to build a "perfect" system and when to ship a functional one to meet business milestones.
- Autonomous: You thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced "family office" style environment with high degrees of ownership.
- Communicator: You can explain complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, such as Investment Committees.
- Passionate: You are excited about the intersection of software and physical assets.
