Turion Space is building the autonomous infrastructure required to operate, protect, and sustain the in-space economy. From on-orbit inspection and debris removal to autonomous spacecraft operations powered by Starfire OS, Turion’s growth depends on disciplined capital planning, clear financial insight, and strong executive decision support.
As Senior Staff Accountant, you will play a key role in safeguarding the integrity of the company’s financial records and strengthening the accounting foundation as the organization matures. You will partner closely with the Controller and Accounting team to support monthly close, financial reporting, audits, and process improvements across the business.
Responsibilities
- Own general ledger accuracy and integrity across transactional accounting activities, including AP, AR, banking, payroll, and journal entries.
- Support the Controller as a primary contributor to monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
- Generate, analyze, and communicate financial data reflecting actual performance versus budget.
- Establish, maintain, and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and SOX-level SOP documentation as the company scales.
- Identify, research, and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
- Assist with variance analysis, detailed reporting, and ad hoc accounting and finance projects.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies in support of annual audits and compliance requirements.
- Partner cross-functionally with Production, Procurement, Cost Accounting, and Operations to ensure inventory controls, project costing accuracy, and purchasing compliance.
- Support implementation and optimization of ERP systems and accounting tools, driving process efficiency and data quality improvements.
- Provide clear accounting guidance to non-finance stakeholders and help translate accounting concepts into operational understanding.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-accountability accounting culture by strengthening internal communication and supporting team development.
- Step in as needed to support broader accounting responsibilities in a fast-evolving, startup environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or technical accounting roles.
- Strong understanding and practical application of GAAP.
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adjust effort based on workload demands.
- Strong attention to detail, judgment, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to clearly explain accounting concepts to non-accountants.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively across all levels of an organization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar ERP platforms.
- Exposure to government accounting and ASC 606 revenue recognition.
- Big 4 or public accounting experience.
- Experience supporting audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
- Background in startup or high-growth environments.
- Comfort adopting new technologies and leveraging AI-enabled accounting tools.
- Knowledge of applicable accounting laws, codes, and regulations.
- Self-starter mindset with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
