Please note successful candidates will be invited to attend our Trainee Recruitment Day for 2028 Traineeships for Scots Law Students, which will take place on Thursday 1st October 2026. Applications close at 12pm on Friday 11th September 2026.

Successful recruits will have a Scottish Law Degree at upper second or above or an accelerated ordinary LLB following an upper second or above in their first degree.

Our traineeships are structured over two years and cover four six-month seats in various areas of the firm. All trainees spend time in our largest departments – Tax and Succession and Land and Property; these are compulsory trainee seats and there may be an opportunity to spend time in our other departments: Charities, Employment and Dispute Resolution, Divorce and Family, and Family and Private Businesses.

The traineeship is mostly based in our Edinburgh office with some opportunities to work in Glasgow. Our trainees benefit from a structured mentoring programme and each have their own mentor assigned to them. They are expected to take a high degree of personal responsibility for their career from the start.

On-the-job training is complemented by regular internal seminars, continuing professional development and Partner-led quarterly reviews. It is a continuous two-way process with regular feedback and communication.
