Join our highly regarded Mid Kent Environmental Health Team and play a leading role in protecting public health, improving environmental quality, and supporting communities across Tunbridge Wells and the wider Mid Kent partnership. This role offers the opportunity to lead on specialist areas of Environmental Protection while mentoring colleagues and helping shape service delivery.
This opportunity could suit someone ready to step into their first senior role, as well as an experienced senior officer who can jump straight in. For the right applicant, we will provide the training and support needed to develop into the service’s lead officer for contaminated land over time.
About the Role
As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will investigate and resolve complex environmental protection matters, including noise, nuisance, pollution, waste, drainage, pests, planning and licensing consultations, while representing the Council in legal proceedings where required. You'll also provide technical leadership and support the development of less experienced officers.
You may also lead on specialist areas such as:
- Statutory Nuisance
- Private Water Supplies
- Contaminated Land
- Acoustics
- Air Quality Management
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds a degree in Environmental Health and EHORB registration
- Has substantial Environmental Protection experience, including complex nuisance and noise investigations
- Can confidently manage enforcement action, hearings and court work
- Is an excellent communicator, capable of engaging with residents, businesses, councillors and partners
- Is organised, resilient and able to work independently
- Enjoys variety, problem-solving and making a real difference to local communities
