Make a real difference when it matters most. We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused Housing Options Advisor to join our Housing Service on a 12-month fixed term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to support residents who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, helping them access safe and sustainable housing solutions. About the role
As a Housing Options Advisor, you will be at the forefront of preventing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households. You’ll work closely with customers to understand their circumstances, provide high-quality housing advice, and identify practical solutions tailored to their needs. You will manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment, ensuring our statutory duties are met while delivering a person‑centred service.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Providing expert housing advice and homelessness prevention support
- Assessing applications in line with housing legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Developing and reviewing personalised housing plans to prevent or relieve homelessness
- Managing a caseload of customers, including those with complex needs
- Making legally compliant decisions and issuing clear, accurate correspondence
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, landlords, and partner agencies to secure sustainable housing outcomes
- Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in housing, homelessness, or a related advisory role
- Has a good understanding of housing legislation and homelessness duties
- Is an excellent communicator, leading with empathy when dealing with vulnerable customers
- Can manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively in a pressured environment
- Is confident making decisions and producing clear, accurate written work
- Works collaboratively and builds strong relationships with partners
