The D. E. Shaw group seeks motivated individuals with impressive records of academic and/or professional achievement to join the firm as trader/analyst interns. Research analysts and traders are vital to our fundamental investing groups, bringing their unique perspectives to the firm's collegial teams. Interns may have a passion for investing, may also be newcomers to the field, and simply be interested in solving complex, multifaceted problems that are ever-changing and reach far beyond the finance industry. This is a nine‑week program that is expected to run from June to August 2027.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
- Research, analyze, and perform due diligence on specific companies or industries to help the team assess potential investments.
- Stay up to date on current news and trends, read company reports, and analyze data from a variety of sources.
- Leverage several technological platforms to analyze market data and make qualitative decisions based on those analyses, reflecting the firm’s position at the intersection of finance and technology.
Who We're Looking For
- Analytical rigor, impressive critical thinking skills, and a demonstrated interest in financial markets (e.g., through trading or coding competitions; STEM research experience; involvement with investing or finance clubs, internships, or insight programmes; or Olympiad participation).
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to analyze and think through the implications of new investment ideas while also contributing original perspectives.
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's or graduate degree program in any field of study; no previous finance experience is necessary. Students who apply to this internship are usually approaching their final year of full‑time study.
