Overview
Experienced Barge Engineer required for long term role on Jack Ups offshore Saudi Arabia. These positions are salaried rotational roles on a 35 day on / 35 day off.
Responsibilities
- Monitor weather conditions and rig motions; inform OIM of conditions likely to affect drilling operations and seaworthiness of the rig.
- Ensure accurate calculation of load distribution and weights for daily stability reports and lightship.
- Coordinate all helicopter and supply boats traffic; supervise movement of materials and personnel to and from the rig.
- Ensure all navigation equipment is properly maintained and ready for use at all times.
- Monitor quantities of expendables such as fuel, potable water, drill water, etc.
- Ensure that cranes are in safe working condition.
- Maintain all safety equipment, including lifeboats and firefighting equipment, in a state of operational readiness.
- Participate in daily operations meetings with the OIM and other rig department heads.
- Operate and maintain the bulk system as required.
- Supervise tests on firefighting equipment, obstacle lighting and audible signals.
- Ensure lifting gears are inspected, certified, colour coded, maintained, and stowed properly.
- Prepare and supervise rig move plans and associated mobilisation preparations.
- Ensure daily marine logs are accurate and completed; forward copies to the Marne SME.
- Ensure compliance with Flag State, Classification Society, statutory regulation, and minimum manning requirements.
- Coordinate and supervise periodic inspections of the rig’s structure, including hull compartments and critical joints.
- Assist in management of the Preventive Maintenance System and ensure records are maintained.
- Supervise operation and maintenance of pollution control system.
- Coordinate inventory with materials man.
- Incorporate the THINK process into all tasks, whether working alone or as part of a team.
- Participate in the STOP program and ensure subordinate personnel are trained in STOP.
- Call a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) whenever an unplanned hazard or change in expected results is observed.
- Communicate Company QHSE policies to rig personnel; participate in weekly and safety management system meetings.
- Review and understand the rig’s safety case; ensure new arrivals receive full safety briefing and induction.
- Maintain high standard of hygiene and housekeeping onboard.
- Coordinate weekly emergency drills and evaluate deck crew responses.
- Perform assigned duties during emergency situations as designated; meet training requirements; participate in performance appraisals.
- Mentor, develop, and train crew for competency at their next job level; ensure proper communication and on-the-job training; maintain discipline and apply company/regulatory procedures.
Qualifications
- Education / Qualifications: Marine College. (Deck Officer or Engine Officer)
- Certifications: Certificate of Competency (Marine License).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years’ offshore experience on mobile drilling units; OIM Bottom Bearing on Location/Underway License; completed 5 — 10 rig moves; knowledge of technical calculations for safe marine operation; knowledge of stability; excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
