We are recruiting a Chief Electrician for work based in Saudi Arabia. The Chief Electrician reports directly to the Preventive Maintenance Manager and is responsible for performing duties in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, parts ordering, and administration of the PMS system.
Key Accountabilities
- Should have hands-on working experience in drilling equipment with in-depth knowledge of testing and repairing.
- Meets maintenance financial standards by providing annual budget information.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures; complying with legal codes and regulations.
- Should be able to handle the section effectively with a focus on improvements and knowledge of modern concepts of maintenance used.
- Responsible for proper recording of temporary and preliminary modifications.
- Maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment such as generators, alternators, motors, and intercommunication systems.
- Accurately maintain logbooks, planned maintenance system, and spare part control.
- Keep and maintain the current vendor’s catalog library of all equipment in the area of responsibility.
- Ensure through uniform stock & quantity control that adequate inventory and level of spares are maintained at all times in the area of responsibility.
- To be familiar with all Company procedures, including the Safety Management System, applicable to his duties.
- Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work in accordance with the established safety standards and work practices.
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain electrical equipment, diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
- Taking part in emergency and occupational onboard training such as the use of self-contained breathing apparatus, firefighting, man overboard exercises, lifeboat launching, security drills, and/or other training as applicable for the function.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on electrical equipment as per ADC standards.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Interprets prepared sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Plans work based on appropriate sequence and procedure.
- Installs and connects electrical equipment to wiring and power systems.
- Replaces faulty electrical components and defective wiring and makes connections to electrical installations.
- Take lead, motivate and guide his respective team in any troubleshooting, minor and major maintenance activities.
- Ensure that the PTW system is followed and all safety regulations are adhered to ADC standards.
- Ensure all necessary forms and documentation are completed and approved as required prior to, during, and subsequent to maintenance activities.
- Ensure that records systems, engineering drawings, and operations and maintenance databases are kept updated.
- Ensure all necessary tools and test equipment are available and operational.
- Provide support for emergency response and ensure all staff is fully trained and competent in emergency response procedures and have the necessary personal protective equipment for their specific duties.
- Assist in commissioning new facilities as required from time to time in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Monitor and track work times, work activity schedules, performance, and time off of all assigned team members.
- Provide immediate reporting to the tool pusher regarding any HSE incident, accident, and non-conformances involving company staff and equipment.
- Establish training and produce reports for a Computerized Maintenance Management System, use software, and design databases.
- Provide one-on-one training to electricians that may need to polish current skills or wish to learn new skills. Prepare, train, and encourage all levels of maintenance staff for the opportunity to be promoted.
- Evaluate the Senior Electrician with 3-7 years experience having potential to be Chief Electrician.
- Meets maintenance goals by contributing information and recommendations for strategic planning and review, preparing and enacting action plans.
- Ensure that the planned maintenance tasks are performed and recorded accurately in due time, as per the company standards and procedures.
- Follow up the Technical Alerts, Bulletins, and MSP relating to Rig equipment, and ensure conformance to the latest amendments.
- Ensure that the relevant Maintenance Standards and Procedures documentation are updated and readily available on the rig.
- Have to be familiar with the company Maintenance Standards & Procedure (MSP) and SAP.
- Be sure all safety and emergency systems are running properly and not isolated.

- Contribute to cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce unnecessary expenses.
Desired Qualities/Qualifications
Education / Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Training / Certifications / Skills:
- Must have good knowledge in PLC, VFD, network communications types and troubleshooting, computer software, computer hardware, and drilling electrical equipment.
- Use an electrical schematic and wiring diagram.
- Interpret information from different sources such as IEEE handbook and NEMA standards.
- Familiar with cable size international standards.
- Perform basic power calculations.
- Familiar with ABS standards.
- Must have good knowledge of drilling equipment and rig operations.
Relevant Experience – Minimum: Minimum 8 years in onshore or offshore drilling operation.
