Location: Antrim Hospital (with potential travel across Northern Trust sites)

Department: Radiology Directorate

Reports To: Clinical Services Manager (via Assistant Clinical Services Manager/Lead MRI Radiographer)

Duration: 3-month initial contract

Hours: 7-day service with extended working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays

Job Summary: The Locum MRI Radiographer will perform MRI scanning duties across Northern Trust sites, primarily Antrim and Causeway Hospitals. The role involves delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging services, ensuring patient safety, and supporting efficient departmental operations. The post holder will uphold professional standards, contribute to continuous quality improvement, and provide mentorship to junior staff when required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct MRI scans using GE Optima 450W 1.5T and Siemens Sola systems
  • Adhere to departmental policies, MR safety protocols, and regulatory standards (IRMER, COSHH, MHRA)
  • Ensure accurate patient identification, clinical safety checks, and quality imaging
  • Maintain equipment, report faults, and follow infection control guidelines
  • Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team and demonstrate compassionate patient care
  • Support training and development of junior staff

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree or Diploma in Radiography
  • HCPC registration
  • Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience, with at least 2 years in MRI
  • Experience with GE and Siemens MRI systems
  • PGCert in MRI and IV cannulation (or equivalent) desirable
  • Strong communication skills and knowledge of MR safety standards
  • Flexibility to work extended hours and across multiple sites
  • Access NI clearance and good physical health for the role
