Join Vax’s Industrial Design team, which is made up of highly talented and experienced ID Engineers. The Design placement offers a unique opportunity to gain a greater understanding of the New Product Development process within a large global organisation. Working with a leading brand and international product development group, the successful candidate will be expected to be involved in concept design and sketching, breadboard prototype creations, CAD modelling and visualisation as well as actively working on full new product development lifecycles from conception to production.
The Industrial Design team sits within the New Product Development department, meaning the successful candidate will also gain valuable insight into all the other disciplines involved in bringing a new product to market, such as Advanced Development, Mechanical engineering, and product quality.
What will a day in an Industrial Design Placement look like?
- Developing concepts, sketching prototype creation using 2D & 3D visualisation skills.
- CMF Exploration & Documentation
- Scale Models (foam, cardboard)
- Working with live projects with real responsibility from day one
- Visualisation of Product Concepts using Keyshot (training on the system!)

Who Should apply?
- You should be looking for a year placement for your 3rd or 4th year of a relevant/product degree, ideally Product Design Engineering or Industrial Design
- On track for a 2:1 or above
- Good A-level or equivalent qualifications, including maths and a physical science subject
- Some work experience and/or extra-curricular activity in a relevant engineering-based sector would be desired
What Skills and Experience are valuable to Vax?
- An appreciation of the floorcare market. It would be great to have an understanding of visual trends within the home appliance market and a comprehension of how these may evolve over time.
- Preferably some workshop experience, able to handle some manual tasks including drilling, gluing, taping, sealing etc.
- Evidence of a passion for design and understanding how it can add value to product
- Demonstrate a passion for CMF & documentation processes
- Display an appreciation of wider consumer and commercial requirements; for example, anthropometrics/ergonomics.
