BTG Pactual is seeking an Infrastructure Specialist to join its Technology team in London. The role is hands-on, demanding strong technical grounding across corporate server infrastructure, VMware, Dell server hardware, and Pure storage, and the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex issues. A core component of the position is ownership of the firm’s disaster recovery capability — design, implementation, testing, runbook development, and ongoing refinement of recovery procedures to meet RTO and RPO targets. The successful candidate will also apply AI-powered tools to develop automation scripts, infrastructure-as-code templates, and streamline operational workflows. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity for an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to transition to a permanent role upon successful completion. The role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the London office and the flexibility to increase on-site attendance to four or five days when business needs or critical incidents arise.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate infrastructure tasks across global environments, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and technical teams worldwide; manage vendor relationships and escalate hardware/software issues as required.
  • Design and implement high-availability architectures across on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring minimal downtime and service continuity.
  • Build VMware hosts; troubleshoot ESX hosts and SAN-related issues, and manage guest OS provisioning.
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server environments (Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, GPO, DNS/DHCP, Print Servers, NTFS permissions, iSCSI SANs).
  • Plan, execute, and validate cloud migration projects, moving workloads to AWS with minimal disruption; design and manage hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises, AWS, and Azure.
  • Implement and maintain AWS security best practices, including network segmentation, IAM policies, and encryption.
  • Leverage AI-powered coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to develop and optimise automation scripts, PowerShell/Python code, and infrastructure-as-code templates.
  • Configure server monitoring alerts, VM backups on Rubrik, and execute daily monitoring checks to ensure storage/backup procedures function correctly.
  • Design and build high-availability and DR architectures; perform capacity planning; manage and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Automate daily operational tasks; define and apply GPOs; control access permissions and privileges; manage Office 365 configurations.
  • Participate in an on-call support rota to provide after-hours and weekend coverage for critical infrastructure incidents; execute planned production environment changes outside standard business hours.

Technical Skills

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8+: host provisioning, command-line administration, storage provisioning, Veeam; deep understanding of virtual infrastructure and its link to the physical environment.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019–2025: Active Directory, Entra ID, Print Servers, GPO, DNS/DHCP, User Management, NTFS file permissions, Rubrik, Veeam Backup Exec, Dell servers, RAID, Security, internal/public key infrastructure, iSCSI SANs.
  • Experience configuring high-performance/high-availability SQL Servers in virtual and physical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery solutions and technologies; Zerto replication and failover experience.
  • AWS IaaS experience: EC2, VPC, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch and related services; design and implementation of Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
  • Experience operating in hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises data centres, AWS, and Azure.
  • Infrastructure-as-code mindset: PowerShell/Python, configuration management (DSC, Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Citrix CCA or equivalent; SolarWinds Orion configuration and monitoring; Azure cloud services management.
  • Management of backup and restore applications such as Veeam; troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware; escalating hardware problems to manufacturer as required.

Professional Qualifications

  • Certified in one or more of the following: MCSA Windows Server 2016+, MCITP Enterprise Administrator, or MCITP Server Administrator.
  • AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect or AWS SysOps Administrator are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code is required.

Experience & Behavioural Competencies

  • 10+ years of professional experience in a financial services technical role.
  • Team player with excellent consultative and communication skills; proven ability to work effectively with management, staff, vendors, and consultants.
  • Ability to work independently to meet goals and objectives with minimal supervision; strong problem-solving, prioritisation, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, responding to critical requests calmly and efficiently; managing own workload effectively, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proactive mindset towards infrastructure resilience, focusing on continuous improvement of HA and DR capabilities.
  • Enthusiasm for adopting AI-assisted development tools with demonstrated ability to integrate them into daily infrastructure workflows to drive efficiency and innovation.
