An opportunity has arisen to recruit a C&I Maintenance Technician at South Humber Bank Power Station. As a member of a team of multi and/or single skilled technicians (Mechanical, Electrical, Control and Instrumentation), the successful candidate will undertake routine and planned maintenance to a plant comprising complex and diverse range of equipment, operating 24/7/365 in a stop and starting regime. This will include responding to plant and equipment failures, ensuring availability and safe reliable conditioning to satisfy production demands. By undertaking maintenance to the power plant systems, the successful candidate will ensure the continued production of electricity to meet customer requirements, achieving best business value and compliance with HSE, company and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Maintenance Lead Technician, the key duties and responsibilities will include executing routine and non-routine maintenance activities in accordance with agreed procedures and operational requirements to ensure plant is operating safely, effectively and efficiently, whilst ensuring safe working practices and procedures are adhered to within the work area.
  • Carrying out first line maintenance activities, with response to emergency / unscheduled situations in the event of abnormal incidents in order to protect plant and personnel ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies.
  • Investigating complex technical problems relating to critical plant, identifying, diagnosing and reporting defects within the plant utilising the Maintenance Management system, ensuring defects are resolved whilst maintaining station performance and meeting operational targets by returning plant to normal operating service.
  • Preparing work method statements, risk assessments and/or plant operating instructions ensuring the required level of maintenance to asset is achieved and records maintained.
  • Supporting the safe management of change control processes and ensuring Process Safety awareness is maintained throughout all activities.
  • Preparing work orders; ordering spares, completing risk assessments and identification of resources, as well as supporting the delivery of low contracts, monitoring performance and review with direction and support of the maintenance/engineering team leader.
  • Providing practical discipline leadership for the work, carrying out the delegate person responsibility to assist in ensuring site compliance and elements of the Business Management System reflect the site practices.
  • Undertaking the role of technical lead for designated maintenance activities, providing specialist technical expertise as required by the Maintenance Team Leader.
  • Providing a service support function to the Operations department and ensuring defects and status of any maintenance activity is effectively communicated to the shift teams.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Background: Demonstrable experience within the power generation industry – desirable.
  • Behaviours: Good numeracy, literacy and problem solving skills – essential.
  • Demonstrable competence in use of IT/IS skills (e.g. MS Office) – essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – essential.
  • Identifies improvements and takes the initiative to the betterment of the business – essential.
  • Flexible approach adapting quickly to new tasks, changes in the job and work environment and enjoys being fully involved in ensuring the business is a success – essential.
  • Qualifications: Minimum of ONC (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering subject – essential.
  • Completed a recognised formal training programme or apprenticeship to achieve technician status (C&G parts I, II & III) – essential.
  • Possess a HNC or equivalent in an Engineering discipline – desirable.
  • Member of recognised professional institution – desirable.
