The predicted salary is between 50000 - 60000 ÂŁ per year.
This role has lead responsibility for VAT and directly supports the Tax Director and wider business. The role provides broad experience within a commercial setting, encompassing both VAT compliance and business partnering and transaction advice. The role is replacing a long-serving member of staff who is retiring and provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to develop and deliver new VAT processes within the Group. Flexible hours or part-time working is possible with this role. TT Group operates a hybrid home/office working model.
Job Overview: The specific responsibilities of the role include:
- Overall responsibility for VAT matters within the business, reporting directly to the Tax Director and being the “go to” person in the business for VAT queries.
- Preparation/review of VAT returns, including group returns and partial exemption calculations.
- Supporting colleagues in tax and finance with preparation of simpler VAT returns.
- Submission of VAT returns and arranging payment of VAT liabilities.
- Providing 6-month forecast for VAT liabilities for the Group.
- Corresponding with HMRC on technical VAT issues such as Partial Exemption Special methods.
- Providing VAT support to the wider business, including advice on property deals, larger corporate transactions and Group restructuring as they arise.
- Developing new VAT return processes and training staff accordingly.
- Keeping up to date with changes in VAT legislation, case law and changes in HMRC’s interpretation of VAT issues and advising the Tax Director of any changes and opportunities resulting from this.
- Working with external advisors on projects.
Successful candidates should have the following attributes:
- Substantial knowledge and experience of UK VAT (5+ years).
- Comfortable working as part of a team and liaising with both finance and non-finance colleagues, but also comfortable working as the sole VAT source within the Group.
- Confident in working to deadlines and prioritising workload.
- Good written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to explain tax concepts to non-finance colleagues.
Other attributes which would be helpful but are not essential:
- Prior property industry experience.
- Prior experience of working within an in-house tax team.
- Experience of delivering process change.
