Role Overview and Responsibilities

We require a Quality Engineer to join our Quality team based at our site in Abercynon, South Wales. The purpose of the Quality Engineer role is to support the manufacturing teams in the creation of robust processes including the generation of Control Plans, measurement standards and the root cause analysis of non-conformances. To monitor the effectiveness of the relevant sections of the QMS through the monitoring of KPU's and the application of systems and process audits to identify improvement opportunities. Also, to provide an interface between the customer/supplier and the internal departments with regards to FAI's, non-conformances (8S's etc) and general or technical queries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with the manufacturing teams to ensure that processes have robust quality controls, PFMEA, documented control plans and identify any opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitoring of performance trends in Connector Assembly and providing information with regards to scrap, MRB status and feedback on the status of any customer/supplier concerns identified.
  • Attend the daily & weekly tier 2 & 3 SPQDCE meetings and supporting improvement initiatives and root cause analysis activities.
  • Dealing with customer queries/complaints for Connector Assembly manufacturing areas.
  • Participate in the 8D review meeting, coordinate customer feedback and support the implementation of improvement actions.
  • To monitor and support the implementation of containment for parts and corrective actions and report any issues regarding the timely closing out of all such actions.
  • Conducting product, process and system audits as required.
  • Prepping/scheduling and conducting first article inspection for all manufacturing products.
  • Support the continued development of the QMS.
  • Support for other manufacturing areas as required.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

  • Key understanding of quality management tools with respect to the effective application of tools such as 8D/RCA, Poka Yoke, control plans and PFMEA.
  • Ability to identify potential quality improvement activities.
  • Able to read engineering drawings.
  • The ability to prioritise activities based on understanding of the business needs.
  • The ability to work in a structured and methodical way.
  • Team working and supporting the sharing of best practice and expertise in Quality principles across all departments.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all points of contact both internally and externally.
  • An understanding of the requirements of a robust manufacturing quality management system.
  • The ability to understand product requirements and defining effective measurement systems.

Requirements of the Person - CORE

  • Minimum 5 years of working as a Quality Technician or similar relevant function within a fast moving manufacturing environment.
  • HNC or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • Computer literate including the analysis of data in spreadsheets and databases and the generation of reports and presentations (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting system and process audits.

Requirements of the Person - DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience within a Quality Engineering role.
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001:2015 standard and its effective implementation.
  • Understanding/experience of implementing lean principles within a quality environment.
  • Previous experience of the Q Pulse quality tool database system (Desirable but not essential).
