Role Overview and Responsibilities
We require a Production Engineer to join our team based at our site in Abercynon, South Wales. The Production Engineer is responsible for implementation of production processes and procedures, leading production and productivity improvements with project based activities, including new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing layouts (cell design) to reduce waste, improve product quality, build safety into process and reduce operating costs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the safe and effective use of people and equipment to achieve the daily/weekly/monthly production plan.
- Work in conjunction with the Planning department to the TOC process to meet the requirements of the capacity plan in the optimal way.
- Ensure that the manufacturing teams are appropriately trained/qualified for the functions that they are required to perform in line with the work instructions.
- Lead the team in the achievement of the operational KPI's and budgeted requirements.
- Support VAVE activities in all production areas.
- Lead and champion the continuous improvement/lean activities in line with the BE LEAN principles and support the VAVE activities through the implementation of cycle time reduction and tool life improvements.
- Participate in the project management process for NPI and provide resources as required.
- Introduce new processes and equipment required to manufacture products to a required level of output.
Health, Safety and Environment
- Ensure all processes have been risk assessed and the appropriate work instructions for the safe operation are specified.
- Ensure that operators are trained to the specified work instruction.
- Ensure manufacturing operation is compliant with the relevant legislation and TT roadmaps.
- Participate in the HS&E committee meeting and departmental inspections.

- Ability to identify and implement effective training requirements.
- Use of 2D Autocad for developing layout drawings.
- Use of 3D Autocad for the design of jigs and fixtures.

- A clear understanding of how manufacturing process should be configured to ensure stable and effective outputs.
- Demonstrated ability to implement lean improvements in a structured way to continually improve the manufacturing performance.
- Ability to identify and implement new technologies to add value to the existing processes.
- Manage and control costs in line with budget.
- HNC/HND or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
Requirements of the person (DESIRABLE)
- Previous experience of military traction projects.
- Previous experience in connector or harness manufacturing.
- Knowledge of our customers and their industry.
