TSR Legal is delighted to be working with a leading insurance and professional indemnity practice that is looking to appoint a skilled Technical Claims Handler to join its growing Bristol-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for a claims professional to manage a varied and technically challenging caseload of professional indemnity claims while working closely with leading insurers, brokers, and legal professionals. The Opportunity
As a Technical Claims Handler, you will manage a portfolio of professional indemnity claims from first notification through to resolution. Working under delegated authority, you will investigate claims, assess liability, policy coverage, and quantum, while ensuring excellent service delivery to insurers, brokers, and policyholders. You will also support the wider team through mentoring, technical guidance, and maintaining the highest standards of claims handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a full caseload of professional indemnity claims under delegated authority.
- Assess liability, indemnity, policy coverage, and quantum with minimal supervision.
- Investigate complex claims and identify appropriate resolution strategies.
- Negotiate settlements within delegated authority limits.
- Prepare technical reports and recommendations for insurers where matters fall outside delegated authority.
- Effectively manage and liaise with panel solicitors on behalf of insurers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, brokers, policyholders, and external suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), KPIs, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate reserves and ensure effective cost control throughout the life of each claim.
- Keep electronic case management systems up to date with complete and accurate records.
- Support the development of junior team members through coaching, mentoring, and technical training.
- Stay up to date with legal developments and share technical knowledge across the team.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience handling professional indemnity or technical insurance claims.
- Strong technical knowledge of claims handling, relevant legislation, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent investigation, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- The ability to prioritise a busy caseload while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commercial approach with excellent client service abilities.
- Experience working within delegated authority arrangements is highly desirable.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using electronic claims or case management systems.
