About the Role
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal / Prospect Assessor to join a growing legal team, supporting clients with a range of employment law matters.
This role would suit someone at an early stage of their legal career who has a genuine interest in employment law and is looking for the opportunity to develop their knowledge and progress into a full case-handling position.
You will initially be responsible for reviewing newly referred claims and assessing their prospects of success, considering the available instructions, evidence and relevant legal tests. You will receive appropriate supervision and support while working through a structured 12-month training and development plan, designed to build your knowledge and practical experience in employment law litigation.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for their own caseload, with the longer-term aim of managing legal cases from initial assessment through to conclusion.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of approximately 25 pre-litigation and/or litigated employment law matters.
- Reviewing newly referred claims and assessing their prospects of success based on the available evidence, instructions and relevant legal principles.
- Preparing clear, accurate and well-reasoned written assessments for clients.
- Communicating confidently and professionally with clients, insurers and other third parties.
- Explaining legal concepts, options and next steps to clients in a clear and accessible way.
- Ensuring claims are handled in accordance with relevant legal expenses insurance requirements and agreed service standards.
- Identifying potential risks and issues relating to claims, including fraudulent, exaggerated or otherwise problematic claims, and escalating these appropriately.
- Making commercially aware, risk-based decisions when assessing claims.
- Maintaining a strong focus on risk management, quality and client service.
- Taking ownership of client queries and ensuring issues are followed through to resolution.
- Working towards agreed KPIs, SLAs and performance targets while maintaining a high standard of service.
- Participating fully in a structured 12-month training and development programme.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues while also developing the confidence to take responsibility for your own caseload.
About You
We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about developing a career in law and who can demonstrate strong communication, organisational and analytical skills.
You will ideally have:
- A law degree, legal qualification or relevant legal experience.
- An interest in employment law and litigation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to clients.
- Confidence communicating with a range of external parties.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse information and identify relevant risks.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative, while recognising when advice or support is required.
- A client-focused approach and a genuine commitment to providing a high-quality service.
- The ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple matters and deadlines.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Teams.
- Resilience and confidence when dealing with sensitive or potentially challenging client matters.
- A willingness to learn and develop your legal knowledge and practical skills.
- A commercially aware approach, particularly when making decisions around risk and case viability.
If you have relevant transferable experience, a genuine interest in employment law and are keen to build a long-term career within the legal sector, we would be interested in hearing from you.
Career Development
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to establish themselves within employment law.
You will receive structured training and supervision during your first 12 months, with the opportunity to develop from an initial assessment role into a position with greater responsibility for managing legal cases.
