The predicted salary is between 800 - 1400 £ per month.

Location: Cardiff (City Centre - Park Place)

Hours: Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 6:00pm (or as required to fulfil the role)

Reporting to: Senior Clerk / Lead Clerk

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

TSR Legal is working with a leading Cardiff-based chambers to recruit a Trainee Junior Clerk to join a busy and professional clerking team. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in clerking and practice management within the legal sector.

The successful candidate will provide an effective and efficient practice management service, supporting barristers and clerks to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of chambers. You will play a key role in diary management, client liaison, court preparation and compliance, working closely with Senior and Lead Clerks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing a high-quality clerking and practice management service at all times
  • Answering telephone and video calls promptly and professionally
  • Handling enquiries from solicitors, clients and third parties, ensuring accurate records are maintained
  • Entering and managing instructions, case papers and notes on the case management system
  • Managing barristers' diaries and ensuring accurate court listings, venues and timings
  • Supporting barristers with court attendances and conferences, including logistics, papers and court runs
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including the BSB Handbook, AML procedures, conflicts and complaints processes
  • Assisting with fee quotes, billing and fee chasing as directed by senior clerks
  • Recording and escalating fee disputes where required

Clerking & Administrative Support

  • Managing printing requests and distributing case papers
  • Receiving and distributing DX and general post
  • Assisting with the timely return or secure disposal of paperwork
  • Supporting post-runs and daily opening/locking up of chambers when required
  • Assisting admin and front-of-house duties during periods of absence or leave

Additional Responsibilities

  • Deputising for clerks during periods of absence, as agreed
  • Supporting inter-team cooperation to ensure efficient service delivery
  • Assisting with seminars, talks and marketing activities
  • Presenting a professional image of chambers at all times
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties required to support the practice management function
