About The Role
The Project Sustainability Lead will predominantly support construction operations and will be a technical expert in their field assisting the project team to navigate requirements such as BREEAM / LEED / Low Carbon Construction. They will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to direct decisions and activities towards sustainable and compliant outcomes that align with project objectives. They will interact and work with the wider sustainability function to align business activities with the sustainability strategy “Build Beyond”.
Responsibilities
- Project Compliance
- Key contact for assigned construction projects and teams – as the sustainability subject matter expert providing technical advice and guidance.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of internal environmental sustainability training.
- Report to the project team monthly to feedback site environmental and sustainability performance and progress.
- Support project teams in discharging their environmental, social and sustainability related planning conditions, and delivery of organisation KPIs.
- Undertake regular site visits and inspections on assigned projects to ensure environmental compliance and best practice.
- Writing and communication of site project environmental and sustainability documentation such as construction environment management plans and pollution incident response plans.
- Building & Project Certification
- Support project teams in understanding certification requirements (such as BREEAM, LEED) and achieving their targeted credits.
- Engage with supply chain and relevant roles to ensure requirements and evidence for certifications are discharged / collected in a timely manner.
- Leads or supports the maintenance of a compliance and certification tracker that collates, records, and references a robust and auditable trail of information as evidence of compliance for project certifications.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients and consultants when concerning progress and requirements with certifications.
- Actively manages and supports the management of the assessment process in line with industry guidance and with the input from the project team.
- Responsible for identifying and escalating any risks with meeting the outlined project certification requirement.
- Supports knowledge sharing and process improvement practices across the business, to ensure a high level of efficiency on BREEAM projects.
- Sustainability Strategy
- Supports the Head of ESG with strategy delivery and performance evaluation.
- Integrates strategy objectives into operational practices, championing change and improvement.
- Aligns Ireland with the TSL group work focused on European reporting requirements.
- Assists the development of the environmental management system and other ESG company documents.
Key Skills and Experience
- Qualifications
- Essential: A degree qualification in an environment / sustainability / ESG discipline.
- Desirable: Health & Safety Qualification / Competency ISO14001 Internal Auditor BREEAM / LEED Qualification (e.g. AP).
- Experience
- Essential: 3+ years’ experience providing environmental and sustainability support to construction in the built environment space.
- Supporting project teams to review / prepare evidence for building certification assessments such as BREEAM, LEED & WELL.
- Desirable: Leading project teams on BREEAM assessments – with demonstrable history of certifications achieved. Undertaking environmental and social assessments and driving performance improvements. Writing and updating business management system documentation (procedures, policies). Experience conducting building emission LCAs with software such as OneClick.
- Core Skills
- Essential: Competent with Microsoft Office packages; Word, Excel PowerPoint. Clear, effective verbal communicator with strong interpersonal skills. Accustomed to report writing and when required presenting to varied audiences. Able to handle and process large data sets for reporting sustainability metrics on emissions, and construction performance.
- Desirable: Proficiency in using sustainability assessment and / or data reporting tools and software.
To facilitate the responsibilities of the role the post-holder will need to travel nationally on occasions. The role will directly report into the Int. Head of Sustainability & indirectly to Project Directors.
