TSL is a principal contractor in the building envelope sector, with a Small Works and Roofing division that carries out emergency repairs and planned maintenance for our commercial, stadia and residential complex clients. We are looking for an experienced roofing and maintenance operative who takes pride in delivering a high-quality job. You will carry out planned and emergency roof repairs, small works, and general building maintenance. A hands-on approach and understanding of safe working practices are essential. The role is suited to someone reliable and self-motivated who works well on their own initiative and takes responsibility for the quality of their work. You should enjoy varied tasks, solving problems on site, and building good relationships with clients. Key responsibilities:

  • Emergency Repairs: Attend callouts to carry out urgent repairs on building envelopes.
  • Maintenance Duties: Perform hands-on maintenance work, repairs, and adjustments to building fabric in line with your qualifications and expertise.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all activities adhere to Health and Safety protocols.
  • Coordination with Subcontractors: Liaise with subcontractors to expedite repairs and ensure quality standards are met.
  • Client Portfolio Maintenance: Respond to and address faults across designated client properties.
  • Out-of-Hours Availability: Be available for occasional emergency callouts outside regular hours, with proportional compensation.
  • Surveying and Costing: Assist the Small Works and Roofing team with surveys and cost estimates for remedial works, highlighting opportunities for additional service.
  • Documentation: Use app-based tools to compile detailed reports and justify completed work.
  • Regulation Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulations and alignment with TSL’s ethos.
  • Customer Service: Foster effective client relationships, upholding our reputation for excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the SWR team to coordinate activities effectively.
  • Continuous Development: Keep up to date with industry developments through training and networking opportunities.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 3-5 years practical experience in repairing and maintaining various roofing systems, ensuring durability and weatherproofing.
  • Familiarity with repair and maintenance techniques for a variety of materials (e.g., metal, membrane, cold applied liquids, slate, tiles).
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including COSHH, PPE requirements, risk assessments, and working at heights.
  • Experience working in environments that required strict adherence to Health & Safety regulations with a good understanding of construction site protocols and safe working practices.
  • The ability to interact professionally with clients, including addressing concerns and managing expectations.

Highly Advantageous:

  • An understanding of external building envelope components, including cladding and glazing systems.
  • Experience leading or supervising small teams for maintenance projects.
  • Experience assisting with or independently handling cost estimations and work assessments.
  • Knowledge of app-based maintenance reporting tools.
  • Specialized training for specific roofing systems (e.g., EPDM, TPO, metal roofing).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Roofing Occupations, Construction Operations, or Maintenance Operations.
  • City & Guilds qualifications in Roofing, Building Maintenance, or Construction.
  • Basic Health & Safety certifications, such as: CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Working at Heights Certification.

Whilst we are seeking operatives for full time employment, we would also like to speak to anyone looking to be added to our building envelope supply chain for part-time and/or ad hoc work.
