Are you passionate about transforming literacy outcomes and helping every student unlock their potential through reading and communication? The Portsmouth Academy is seeking to appoint a Phonics and Literacy Teacher to join our team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for an inspiring teacher with a passion for literacy intervention and student progress to make a significant impact across all year groups.

Working closely with the Associate Leader for Literacy, you will plan and deliver targeted phonics and literacy interventions, support students with additional needs including EAL and SEND and help drive literacy improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging phonics and literacy lessons and interventions across KS3 and KS4.
  • Support students in developing confidence, fluency and enjoyment in reading and writing.
  • Work collaboratively with pastoral, SEND and EAL teams to provide effective targeted support.
  • Promote high standards of literacy, communication and oracy across the school.
  • Monitor student progress and use assessment to inform teaching and intervention strategies.
About You:
  • A qualified teacher with QTS.
  • Has experience supporting students with literacy barriers or additional needs.
  • Committed to inclusive education and high expectations for all learners.
  • A strong communicator who can build positive relationships with young people, colleagues and families.
