Considering a career in teaching? The Portsmouth Academy is seeking to appoint a dedicated Cover Supervisor to join our cover team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience before moving into teacher training or a teaching position. You will develop skills in classroom management, behaviour for learning, lesson delivery and student engagement.

You will take responsibility for leading classes in the absence of a teacher ensuring students remain engaged with learning and maintaining high standards of behaviour and achievement.

Your role:

  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials in the absence of the classroom teacher
  • Support students with their learning by providing guidance and clarification on tasks
  • Supervise individuals or small groups of students adapting tasks where needed to meet learning objectives
  • Monitor and report pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff and/or SENCO
  • Support the development of literacy and numeracy skills of pupils from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of classroom activities when cover duties are not required

What you will need to succeed:

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Minimum requirement of Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science
  • A flexible, positive attitude and strong classroom presence
  • Understanding of how to support students with differing levels of ability and needs
  • Ability to maintain high standards of behaviour and learning in a classroom environment
