We are recruiting for an experienced Fitter Welder for a short-term engineering contract working on the repair and refurbishment of all sizes of leaf springs from vintage vehicles including steam locomotives. The job has arisen to cover staff absence for up to 3 months.
Duties:
- Strip down multi-leaf spring packs by cutting the central clamp using a hydraulic press/jig
- Identify and remove broken, damaged, or fatigued leaves
- Degrease and clean complete spring assemblies
- Drill and prepare replacement leaves
- Fit new leaves to specification
- Clamp and align repaired leaf spring assemblies
- MIG weld heavy-gauge steel central clamps
- Carry out final inspection of completed assemblies
Requirements:
- MIG welding experience on heavy-gauge steel
- Experience using drills, grinders, and fabrication equipment
- Ability to work with heavy engineering components
- Good mechanical assembly skills
- Reliable with a strong focus on quality and safety
Hours:
8am to 4pm Monday and Friday and 8am to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
This is a temporary position that starts immediately.
