Try Tag Rugby is one of the UK’s leading social sports organisations, delivering inclusive and social tag rugby leagues and events to thousands of players every week. We exist to bring people together through sport, building community, friendships and fun while making it easy for adults of all abilities to get active. Behind the scenes, we run complex live operations across multiple regions and venues, powered by strong values, clear accountability and a genuine love for what we do.
We are looking for a highly organised, calm-under-pressure Referee Scheduler to own referee appointments across our London leagues. This is a mission-critical operational role. When it’s running smoothly, leagues flow brilliantly and it enables everyone else to do their job at their best. And when something unexpected comes up, it needs someone who can step in quickly, take ownership, and get things back on track. The role runs from mid-March to Friday 18 September and sits at the heart of London league delivery.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- You’ll own the weekly referee roster across London, covering:
- 240–280 games per week
- 36 venues
- 40+ leagues across the week
- Building and publishing weekly referee schedules
- Managing late changes, sickness, no-shows and emergencies
- Being the main point of contact for referees
- Working closely with Regional Managers and League Coordinators to keep leagues fully covered
- Improve rostering systems and databases
- Support referee onboarding and administration
- Create better processes to reduce referee shortages
What this role is (and isn’t):
This is not a background admin job. It’s a live operations role with real accountability. Some weeks are calm. Some weeks are messy. You need to be comfortable with both.
Skills & capability:
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be:
- Exceptionally organised with strong attention to detail
- Calm under pressure and decisive when plans change
- An excellent written and verbal communicator
- A strong problem-solver who fixes issues rather than just flagging them
- Reliable, accountable and trusted to own critical outcomes
- Comfortable managing large volumes of people and information
- Confident using systems, spreadsheets and scheduling tools
Our core values:
We recruit and build teams around our core values. You’ll be expected to align strongly with them:
- Infectious passion: We are deeply committed to the benefits we provide to our communities. We have an infectious passion for making a difference.
- People matter: We get to know our community on a first name basis, build relationships and bring people together. We provide high quality customer service with a personal touch.
- Work hard to create fun: We roll our sleeves up, work hard & have fun as a team. We never forget that our customers are there to have fun!
- Accountable: We take accountability seriously. We work with discipline and integrity. We take pride in our work to drive growth through continuous improvement.
- Can do: We are fearless in tackling challenges and won’t take no for an answer. We are proactive thinkers who initiate action. We have a can-do attitude.
Working pattern & contract:
- Fixed-term seasonal contract
- Mid-March to Friday 18 September
- 35 hours per week
- London office based (Elephant & Castle, SE1) with hybrid flexibility
- Evening availability required during league nights (from 6.30pm)
Pay & benefits:
- Salary: £27,000–£30,000 FTE, pro-rated
- £500 season completion payment (paid at end of contract, subject to satisfactory performance)
- Pro-rated holiday entitlement and TOIL
- Paid refereeing or venue supervising opportunities may be available
- Free access to Try Tag Rugby services
- Training budget, Employee Assistance Programme, office snacks and team socials
