Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Construction Planner to bring structure, consistency, and best practice to planning across our projects. This is a new role in the business, created to support our growth and improve programme quality across all live and upcoming schemes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, managing, and monitoring project programmes from pre-construction through to completion. This is a key role within the business, working closely with Pre-Construction, Commercial, and Operational teams to ensure robust planning and successful project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop tender programmes and phasing plans using Asta Powerproject
  • Work closely with Pre-construction and construction teams to produce competitive and realistic project timelines
  • Build logic‑linked, realistic programmes with clear sequencing and milestones
  • Identify key project risks and opportunities during tender stage
  • Assist in logistics planning and sequencing of works
  • Prepare detailed construction programmes (including critical path analysis)
  • Monitor and update project schedules throughout the project lifecycle
  • Track progress against programme and identify potential delays
  • Produce regular progress reports for internal and client review meetings
  • Advise site teams on sequencing, resource allocation, and recovery strategies
  • Support the preparation of extension of time (EOT) claims where required
  • Introduce and maintain consistent planning processes, templates and reporting
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Site Managers, Subcontractors, and Clients
  • Attend site progress meetings and planning workshops
  • Ensure subcontractor programmes align with the master schedule

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Planner within a construction or engineering contractor environment
  • Sound knowledge of construction sequencing and methodology
  • Ability to plan construction projects from first principles
  • Proficiency in planning software (e.g., Asta Powerproject, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience working on projects typically valued between £2m–£10m
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and reporting abilities
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

  • Experience in NEC and JCT forms of contract
  • Construction-related qualification (HNC/HND/Degree)
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. CIOB) (or prepared to work towards)
