Are you looking to broaden your experience and share your abilities with a wider community? ACE IT Scotland is a successful Edinburgh-based charity, recently awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service (2025). We provide free coaching and support to people over 50 to help them access everything the digital world can offer whilst staying safe online. Working from our city centre office, we have a small team of staff and a large network of dedicated volunteers who deliver our services. These include one-to-one coaching, group sessions, and information presentations. Demand for our services continues to grow, reflecting how essential digital connectivity is for the health, wellbeing and independence of older people. We have clear plans and resources in place to deliver our current strategy and to explore future opportunities for growth and transformation.
Trustee Recruitment – With a View to Future Chair Role
We are now seeking 1–3 new trustees to join our Board. As part of our succession planning, we are particularly interested in individuals who may be willing to take on the role of Chair (or Vice-Chair) in the future. The Board currently comprises eight trustees and meets four to five times per year, normally in person. Trustees also contribute through sub-committees, with extensive use of remote meetings and online collaboration tools.
Skills and Experience Sought
- Chair experience and/or a genuine interest in developing into a Chair role
- Strategic planning and organisational development
- Fundraising and income generation
- Charity governance and regulatory compliance
- Experience within the charity/third sector
- Leadership and team management
- Sector engagement and partnership networks
- Digital skills or IT knowledge
- Financial management or accounting
We do not expect any individual to meet all of these criteria. However, we are especially keen to strengthen the Board’s strategic leadership capacity and future Chair succession. We would also welcome applications from individuals with experience of working with older people, health and social care services, or community organisations. As an organisation, we value diversity and warmly welcome applications from people with protected characteristics and from backgrounds currently under-represented on charity boards. We would expect any applicant to have a good understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Trustee Responsibilities
- Deliver its vision for older people to be connected and reach their full digital potential
- Comply with its Constitution, OSCR regulations and relevant legislation
- Pursue its goals as set out in our Strategy 2026
- Maintain strong governance and financial sustainability
- Develop effective future operating models and long-term strategy
Trustees are expected to provide constructive challenge, strategic insight and support to staff and fellow Board members, and to remain aware of external issues and opportunities that may impact the organisation.
