Fully Remote (UK based) | Competitive Salary + Gifted Equity | B Corp Certified

TrustedHousesitters is a fast-growing, direct-to-consumer marketplace redefining pet care and travel. Our platform connects a thriving global community of pet lovers through a unique, trust-based membership model. We are on a mission to become the world’s most loved travel solution for pet people, fueled by a passionate community of nearly 280,000 members. As we scale globally, our legal landscape is becoming increasingly complex. We operate across multiple jurisdictions (UK, US, EU) and navigate evolving regional regulations. We are looking for our first standalone Legal Counsel – someone ready to move out of a large team and into a high-impact, independent role.

The Role: Bold, Commercial, and Independent

This is a high-impact role that blends strategic leadership with hands-on legal work. While you will operate as a “head up” lawyer – connecting legal risk, commercial opportunity, and member empathy – you should also be prepared for the detailed, transactional work required to keep our global operations running smoothly. You will be an Individual Contributor (IC) acting as the primary legal partner to our Executive Leadership team. While you will have the support of an expert ecosystem of external specialist firms, you will own the day-to-day legal agenda. You should be comfortable applying sharp, commercial judgment to nuanced legal challenges.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Dispute Resolution: Owning the lifecycle of member disputes and subrogation claims. You’ll be the bridge between our community and our external international counsel, finding pragmatic and empathetic solutions.
  • Commercial Strategy: Partnering with Product and Marketing to ensure our brand voice and new feature launches are legally sound across borders. You’ll oversee our global Terms of Service (ToS).
  • Regulatory & Public Affairs: Navigating the shifting landscape of international travel regulations and regional short-term accommodation laws.
  • Business Readiness: Ensuring our internal legal frameworks—from IP to data privacy and contracts—are robust, scalable, and audit-ready as we continue to grow.
  • External Counsel Management: Strategically managing and negotiating our external legal spend to ensure we are getting the best value for the business.

Who you are:

  • Experience: You likely have 3-5 years PQE. You have a proven track record of handling complex legal matters in a fast-moving consumer environment (Travel, Hospitality, Fintech, or Retail).
  • Mindset: You are resilient and independent. You are comfortable being the sole legal point of contact and enjoy the variety of rolling up your sleeves for detailed administrative work one hour and advising the CEO on a high-stakes risk the next.
  • Holistic Jurist: You apply sharp, commercial judgment to nuanced legal challenges, consistently weighing reputational risk and the member experience equally alongside the law.
  • Communicator: You have the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business advice for non-technical stakeholders.

The Process:

  • Talent Screen: A conversation with our People team focused on your experience and approach to independent work.
  • Executive Session: A deep dive with our CEO, CFO, and COO.
  • Practical Task: A case-study exercise.
  • Final Consultation: A final check-in with our lead external legal partners to ensure a seamless technical transition.

In addition to a competitive salary and bonus, we offer a range of benefits, including:

  • For the love of pets: Each year, you’ll get a Premium TrustedHousesitters Combined membership which includes benefits like free airport lounge passes, Sit Cancellation Plan and Home and Contents Plan, plus five Premium memberships to gift to friends and family. Our team can work remotely from as many house sits as they like, and we contribute up to £500 per year towards travel costs to and from sits. Find a rescue pet to join your family and we’ll cover the adoption fees, as well as “pawternity” to help your pet settle into their new home.
  • Health & wellbeing: SimplyHealth healthcare cash plan. Bupa Health Insurance and Dental Insurance plan. Specsavers eyecare scheme. Weekly virtual yoga sessions. Optional enrollment onto our Trusted Giving scheme, which includes employee giving via Charities Trust and 2 days paid annual volunteering allowance.
  • Working environment: Work fully remotely from anywhere in the world – as long as you follow compliance as a UK tax resident. Get £200 to spend on home office equipment each year + MacBook and Apple accessories when you start. Access to Spaces co-working locations across the globe. We host an all-expenses-paid meetup each quarter and fund team events (remote or in-person) throughout the year. We cover the costs of personal development resources and have regular time set aside for learning and growth. Depending on your role within the business, you’ll have the option to customise your work hours to better align with your personal schedule.
  • Compensation & Time Off: 25 days off per year, plus bank holidays and festive closure between Christmas and New Year (36 days + Christmas Day for some roles). Competitive salary which is reviewed twice a year. Generous equity package. Discretionary 10% quarterly bonus scheme, distributed quarterly. Pension scheme: 5% from you as an employee and 3% from TrustedHousesitters. £500 recruitment referral bonus.

If you’re ready to join us on our mission to become the most loved pet travel solution, we’d love to hear from you!
