We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Clerk to join a well established finance team on a permanent basis. This is a hands on role responsible for overseeing tax compliance processes, supporting junior team members and ensuring accurate and timely submissions in line with HMRC requirements. The successful candidate will have strong technical tax knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to manage workloads independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review personal and corporate tax returns
- Ensure timely submission of VAT, PAYE and Corporation Tax returns
- Liaise directly with HMRC regarding queries, investigations and compliance matters
- Review work completed by junior tax clerks and provide guidance where required
- Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation
- Assist with tax planning and advisory support where appropriate
- Monitor tax deadlines and ensure all filings are completed on time
- Support audits and internal reviews relating to tax matters
- Keep up to date with changes in UK tax legislation
Experience and Skills Required
- Proven experience in a tax or accounts role
- Strong knowledge of UK tax regulations and HMRC processes
- Experience preparing personal and corporate tax returns
- Familiarity with VAT and PAYE submissions
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff desirable
