Job Purpose - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

To lead and develop the Regulatory Decision team, ensuring the consistent, fair and timely delivery of high quality regulatory decisions that support public protection.

The Regulatory Decision Manager is responsible for leading a team of Adjudicators, overseeing the allocation and progression of cases, ensuring decisions are evidence based, legally robust and compliant with statutory requirements, organisational policies and regulatory standards.

Working closely with Investigations, Legal Services, Hearings and senior stakeholders, you will promote consistency in decision making, drive continuous improvement and support the professional development of the Adjudication team.

  • Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of Adjudicators, creating a high performing and collaborative working environment.
  • Manage workloads and allocate cases to ensure decisions are delivered within agreed service standards.
  • Conduct regular one to one meetings, performance reviews and development discussions.
  • Coach and support Adjudicators in making fair, proportionate and legally robust regulatory decisions.
  • Manage performance, attendance and wellbeing in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Support succession planning and the ongoing development of decision making capability across the team.
  • Decision Quality and Case Management
  • Oversee the delivery of high quality regulatory decisions, ensuring consistency, accuracy and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor the quality of adjudication and implement quality assurance processes to promote consistency across the team.
  • Provide guidance on complex or high profile cases, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Ensure cases progress efficiently through the decision making process and that service standards are achieved.
  • Review operational performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and decision quality.

  • Lead initiatives to improve adjudication processes, decision making frameworks and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain guidance, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyse performance data and implement improvements based on trends and feedback.
  • Support organisational transformation and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Develop effective working relationships with colleagues across Investigations, Hearings, Legal Services, Registration, Governance and other operational teams.
  • Work closely with legal advisers to ensure regulatory decisions remain legally robust and aligned with current legislation and case law.
  • Provide expert advice and operational updates to senior managers and directors.
  • Represent the Regulatory Decision team at internal meetings and cross organisational projects.

  • Ensure regulatory decisions are made consistently, fairly and in accordance with legislation, organisational policies and governance requirements.
  • Monitor performance against KPIs and produce management information for senior leadership.
  • Support internal and external audit activity and implement recommendations where required.
  • Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

Essential Experience

  • Experience leading a team of Adjudicators, Regulatory Decision Makers or Case Examiners within a regulatory, legal or public sector environment.
  • Experience managing complex regulatory casework and decision making processes.
  • Experience providing quality assurance and coaching to decision makers.
  • Experience managing staff performance and development.
  • Experience working within statutory, legal or regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience analysing performance data and producing management information.
  • Experience leading operational improvement and change initiatives.
