We are partnering with an ambitious, pioneering not-for-profit organisation that designs and funds innovative solutions to some of society’s most complex challenges, including homelessness, domestic abuse, and mental health. By combining advanced data science and agile software development, they build powerful digital platforms and data systems currently utilised by dozens of Local Authorities to improve outcomes for marginalised populations.

They are seeking a high-calibre Associate Director to step into a matrix leadership position. In this role, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage critical external partnerships, and drive strategic growth. This is a delivery-focused, highly strategic role. No coding or engineering background is required; instead, they need a leader with high technical and data literacy who can translate complex concepts seamlessly for non-technical stakeholders.

The Role & Impact

  • Location: Remote First - London (Hybrid: 1 day per month in office)
  • Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 base salary

Operating at a strategic level within a matrix structure, the Associate Director will act as a Project Lead overseeing multidisciplinary teams of managers, analysts, and engineers. They are looking for a leader who can flex across two core strategic domains depending on the portfolio needs:

  • Data Platform Strategy: Owning the strategic portfolio surrounding a primary data product. You will oversee platform scaling, manage full product lifecycles from discovery to completion, and drive business development to expand existing relationships.
  • Systems & Policy Delivery: Operating squarely at the interface of technology, commercial mechanics, and public policy. You will navigate highly complex, multi-partner programs, managing senior external stakeholder dynamics where success relies on influence rather than direct delivery control.

What They Are Looking For

  • Experience: Approximately 7+ years of experience, coming from a technology consulting, digital agency, or government delivery background.
  • Influence-Driven Delivery: Proven track record of delivering complex technical programs or digital transformation initiatives where success depends on influencing external partners and navigating sensitive systems.
  • Data Literacy: Strong familiarity with the data ecosystem (data injection, transformation, analytics, and tool architecture) to interface confidently with technical specialists.
  • Data Guardrails: A robust understanding of data governance, security, and compliance within sensitive data environments.
  • Public Sector Alignment (Desirable): Experience working with central or local government digital and data programs (e.g., GDS/CDDO frameworks). You should be adept at navigating resource constraints and legacy systems creatively.
  • Mission Alignment: A genuine care for how design decisions affect issues like algorithmic bias or state surveillance of disadvantaged populations. A background or deep interest in children's services, health, housing, or homelessness is highly valued.
