Job Overview
Truro and Penwith College is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and experienced Health & Safety and Compliance Manager to support the delivery of a comprehensive health and safety service across the College.
Reporting to the Head of Estates, you will serve as the College's Competent Person and provide expert health and safety advice and guidance to staff across the College.
Responsibilities
- Hold overall responsibility as the College's Competent Person.
- Provide expert health and safety advice and guidance to staff across the College.
- Support managers in developing and maintaining risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Undertake inspections, audits, and incident investigations, ensuring compliance with legislation.
- Analyse data and contribute to continuous improvement of safety performance.
- Promote and support health and safety training and awareness.
- Keep up to date with legislative changes and best practice.
- Be the Competent Person.
- Support the development of systems in line with recognised frameworks such as ISO 45001.
- Play a visible, hands‑on role in ensuring the College provides a safe, compliant, and supportive environment for staff, students, and visitors.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma or Level 5 qualification (or equivalent)
- Proven experience in a health and safety role
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to manage workloads, prioritise effectively, and work independently
- Experience working across complex or multi-site environments
- Strong IT and organisational skills
Desirable
- IOSH membership (or working towards Chartered status)
- Experience within an education or public sector environment
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 or formal management systems
- Experience delivering training or awareness programmes
