We're looking for a reliable, local carpenter to join our small team at Trunk & Chisel Ltd. We specialise in building high-quality external timber-framed structures such as carports, garages, porches, large sheds and workshops. We also produce traditional oak frames from our workshop in Loxton, near Axbridge, and we mainly work across Somerset, usually within around 30 miles. We are hiring on a sub contractor basis and you will be paid through CIS.

Duties:

  • Building external timber structures including carports, garages, porches, workshops and large sheds
  • Assisting with oak framing in the workshop (cutting, mortice and tenon joinery, assembling frames)
  • Measuring, setting out and working from drawings / basic plans
  • Installing frames on site and completing the build to a high standard
  • Fitting cladding, feather edge, doors, trims and finishing details
  • Roofing work as required (battening, felt, sheet materials, etc)
  • Operating power tools and carpentry machinery safely
  • Loading/unloading materials and keeping the work area tidy
  • Working alongside the team to keep jobs running smoothly and on schedule
  • Speaking politely with customers on site and representing the company professionally
  • Keeping the site clean, safe and organised at the end of each day
  • Following health & safety procedures and safe working practices
  • Helping with general tasks when needed

Experience:

  • Carpentry experience (site or workshop based)
  • Confident using hand tools and power tools safely
  • Experience working on timber structures (sheds, outbuildings, framing, roofing etc)
  • Good understanding of setting out, levels and basic measurements
  • Ability to work from drawings / plans (or at least follow instructions well)
  • Experience fitting: cladding, studwork / framing, doors and trims, roofing components

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £140.00-£240.00 per day

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
