Build the materials at the heart of next-generation Augmented Reality (AR). TruLife Optics is pioneering holographic optics that put Augmented Reality into everyday spectacles. At the core of every lens is our proprietary Silver Halide emulsion—formulated, coated, and refined right here in our London lab. We are looking for a curious, hands-on graduate chemist or materials scientist to join our tight-knit Materials Team and help push the boundaries of what holographic optics can do.

The Role
As part of the Materials Team, you will be embedded in the R&D and pre-production pipeline that turns raw chemistry into finished holographic optics. You will learn directly from experienced colleagues, then take ownership of your own experiments and processes.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Processing Silver Halide holographic plates and refining those techniques
- Supporting emulsion chemistry R&D — understanding and improving our formulations
- Recording holograms using laser setups (full training provided)
- Developing and testing coating and lamination methods for integrating holograms into lenses
- Conducting materials trials, experiments, and quality-control checks
- Maintaining safe, organised laboratory environments
- Writing up processes and lab notes clearly for cross-team use
- Tracking consumable usage and processing performance
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Degree (or near-completion) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or closely related discipline
- Practical lab-based experience, including experimental design and write-up
- Good attention to detail and patience — precision matters
- Comfortable working within H&S regulations, risk assessments, and COSHH frameworks about which you will be trained
- A solid grasp of chemistry and materials concepts with ability to apply them practically
- Self-motivated: able to work independently after initial training
- Good manual dexterity — fine lab work is part of the job
- Right to work in the UK
- Ability to work in the dark
Desirable
- Prior laboratory or industrial experience (internship, placement, or research project)
- Familiarity with photographic chemistry, photopolymers, or optical materials
Practical Details
- Hours: 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday (start/end times flexible by agreement)
- Location: Fully on-site, London E14 — remote working is not possible for this lab role
- Environment: Some work in low-light conditions; PPE required and provided
