Senior Network Operations Engineer, Bath, BA2

The Role

As a Senior Network Operations Engineer, you\'ll take technical ownership of our live network operations, ensuring stability, resilience, and continual improvement. You\\\'ll be a hands-on problem solver and trusted advisor, proactively identifying issues before they impact customers, guiding network improvements, and supporting junior engineers with your expertise. This is a senior-level role, sitting at the heart of our operations, with opportunities to act as the operational design authority, contribute to the network roadmap, and deputise for the Network Operations Manager when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the day-to-day smooth operation of the Truespeed network and its interconnections
  • Implement and support network monitoring tools and automation solutions to drive efficiency
  • Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues, conducting root cause analysis and creating PIRs
  • Validate and review network designs and proposed changes, ensuring resilience and scalability
  • Collaborate closely with the design authority on roadmap development and change management
  • Lead capacity planning, ensuring resources and infrastructure meet customer activation and service resilience demands
  • Act as technical mentor to the engineering team, providing training and guidance
  • Support vendor engagement, procurement of network hardware/software, and network improvement projects
  • Deliver clear technical documentation, procedures, diagrams, and reports
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota, supporting incident response and field engineering teams
  • Deputise as cover for the Network Operations Manager when needed
  • Put the customer first in all actions, driving service excellence and continual improvement

What You\'ll Bring

  • A customer-first mindset with a relentless focus on service quality
  • Proven experience working in an ISP, altnet, or data centre environment
  • Deep expertise in network infrastructure, hardware, and software, including staging, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Strong knowledge of optical Ethernet, IP transmission, and routing (ISIS, BGP)
  • Solid understanding of FTTH optical fibre technology and associated performance challenges
  • Familiarity with major network vendors and their platforms
  • Experience with automation tools to streamline operations
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences alike
  • Leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing network engineers
  • Team player with a proactive, can-do attitude and ability to work autonomously when needed
  • Desirable: CCNA/CCIE (or equivalent) certification
