Based on the beautiful coast of Cornwall, TruePlayers is an ambitious UK studio building systems-driven games for PC and console. We offer fully remote working across the UK. Applicants are preferably based (or relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance to our office.
Can you create spaces players instinctively understand, remember, and want to master? We’re looking for a Mid-Senior Level Designer to help shape the environments, pacing, and player experience across our projects. You'll own the design, layout and iteration of levels across our projects, from initial blockout through to shipped, polished spaces. We build realistic-themed games today with Firehawk FPV, but our pipeline is built to flex across art styles, so you'll be comfortable designing for grounded realism while keeping your instincts sharp for whatever direction a project calls for.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats, part designer, part world builder, part problem solver, and wants meaningful creative ownership rather than being siloed into a narrow production pipeline.
What you'll do:
- Design, blockout and iterate on levels in Unity, from first sketch through to ship.
- Build and edit environments using a mix of in-house and third-party assets.
- Own pacing, flow, encounter design and player guidance across your spaces.
- Profile and optimise levels for performance, draw calls, memory, streaming and frame budgets.
- Build and adapt tools in your workflow using coding LLM’s, speeding up repetitive work and unlocking the rest of the team.
- Collaborate closely with design, art and engineering on the feel and fidelity of every space.
Experience:
- 3+ years of production experience shipping real-time games or interactive experiences.
- Strong command of Unity, scenes, prefabs, lighting, and the moving parts that make a level run well.
- A solid grasp of performance and how level design decisions affect it on target hardware.
- Comfort working with assets from external sources, importing, adapting, and integrating cleanly.
- Working knowledge of modelling and texturing, enough to edit and adjust assets yourself when needed.
- Experience using AI coding tools in your day-to-day workflow, and ideally building small tools or utilities with AI to speed up Unity work.
- Confident use of Git in a team environment, branches, PRs, resolving conflicts without panic.
- A portfolio, shipped title or repo you can walk us through.
Nice to have:
- One or more shipped titles as a level designer with demonstrable output.
- Experience across multiple art styles or genres.
- Contributions to open-source Unity tools, assets or projects.
About us:
TruePlayers is an independent game studio focused on building ambitious, systems-driven games for PC and console. We develop original titles that combine deep gameplay, strong atmosphere, and technically demanding mechanics, with current projects including Firehawk FPV alongside several unannounced titles in development.
We operate as a small, highly agile team where developers are trusted with real ownership over their work. Designers at TruePlayers are expected to help shape the game itself, not simply execute tickets. We value initiative, experimentation, and people who enjoy solving difficult creative and technical problems collaboratively.
Our work leans heavily into immersive simulation, emergent gameplay, and large-scale open environments. We move quickly, iterate constantly, and maintain a development culture built around direct communication, creative freedom, and low bureaucracy.
The studio is based in Falmouth on the Cornish coast, though this role is fully remote across the UK. For those interested, Cornwall offers an exceptional quality of life with a strong creative scene, coastline, and outdoor culture that continues to inspire the studio’s work.
How we work:
We're fully remote with a UK base, and we operate in UK-friendly hours. The team is small and senior by design, you'll have autonomy, context and a direct line to the people making product calls. We value careful, deliberate work over heroics, and we protect focus time fiercely.
How to apply:
Send a CV, a short note on why this role and a link to something you've built to . If you've got a personal site, a GitHub, a reel or a shipped title, send that too. We read every application.
